Dog walking at PACS: how to visit the clinic on Koh Phangan

Visitors can join the dog walks at the PACS clinic in Wok Tum, Koh Phangan. The usual times are 09:30 and 15:30, timed to avoid the heat of the day, though walks happen at other times too depending on how the clinic is running. There is no need to book and no charge. Walks normally run Monday to Friday; if a weekend is your only option, message the clinic first. Please do not bring your own dog, as there is a disease risk to the animals recovering at the clinic.

PACS is a working animal hospital in Wok Tum, not a tourist attraction. But visitors are genuinely welcome to come and walk the dogs, and if you are looking for things to do on Koh Phangan beyond the beaches, it is time well spent. It is good for the dogs and it costs nothing.

When are the dog walks?

The usual times are:

09:30, after morning feeding
15:30, before afternoon feeding

Both are timed to avoid the heat of the day.

They are not set in stone. Walks happen at other times too, depending on how the clinic is running, so it is worth asking when you arrive.

There is no need to book and no sign-up. Turn up and say you have come to walk a dog.

Can I come at the weekend?

Walks normally run Monday to Friday. There are fewer staff at weekends, so they are not usually offered.

What to expect when you arrive

PACS is a small team running a working clinic. Most of the time someone will be free to help you straight away.

If an emergency comes in, the animals come first. You may be asked to wait, or to come back later in the day.

Which dog will I walk?

The team will pair you with one. Not every dog at the clinic can be walked. Some are mid-recovery, and some are not ready to be handled by someone they do not know. The staff know which dogs are up for it on the day.

If you have experience handling dogs, say so when you arrive. It widens the range of dogs they can put you with.

You do not need any experience to join in. The dogs mostly want the walk and a fuss.

Please do not bring your own dog

This is the one hard rule. The animals at the clinic are recovering, and some are unvaccinated when they arrive, so there is a real disease risk in both directions. Leave your own dogs at home.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no charge to visit, and no charge to walk a dog.

There are donation boxes at the clinic, and a donation is always appreciated, particularly if someone has taken time out of their day to show you round or introduce you to the dogs.
